Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is delighted to host the 10th World Firefighters Games in 2008.

The 10-day spectacle takes place in Liverpool between August 24 and September 2, and is MF&RS’s contribution towards the city’s European Capital of Culture celebrations.

Communities and Local Government’s Fire and Resilience Directorate works with local fire services to help prevent deaths, injuries and damage to property caused by fire. We also ensure that the Fire and Rescue Service is equipped to deal with major emergencies including terror attacks and natural disasters.

The Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) develops the ability of health responders to advance in the delivery of medical care into the inner cordons of an incident. It is understood that early intervention save lives. HART will encompass Urban Search and Rescue and other specialities outside normal ambulance duties.

Government Decontamination Service will exhibit at the Emergency Services Show this year. We identified that not all emergency responders are fully aware of the support that was available following a deliberate or accidental release of chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear materials (CBRN) or a major accidental release of hazardous material (HAZMAT). It is hoped that our attendance will give many responders a chance to discuss issues with GDS directly.

The International Association of Emergency Managers is a not for profit registered association that brings together emergency managers and disaster response professionals from all levels of government, the public and private sector, as well as volunteer organisations around the world. Since 1998 it has grown to a membership of over 3000 members from over 47 countries.

The International Rescue Corps is an independent (i.e. non-governmental
funded) United Nations Registered disaster rescue service with an accredited
Open College qualification in Urban Search and Rescue.

Over the last 25 years IRC has undertaken a variety of work both in the UK and abroad. Overseas missions include several earthquakes, hurricanes and subsequent floods, mudslides and logistical / aid work, whilst UK missions include gas explosions, terrorist attacks, train crashes, highline rescues, missing person searches and floods.

Londonprepared.gov.uk provides a range of information key to emergency planning in London. A new campaign has been launched aimed at target groups of stakeholders and business to increase the site traffic and downloads. Also offering e-registration, the site can be viewed at the show, alongside the teams latest publicity campaign materials. The London Resilience Partnership is a partnership between the Government, the Mayor of London and all the capital’s key responding agencies and organisations. The London Resilience Team, part of the Government Office for London, consists of civil servants and specialist advisors seconded from London Resilience Partner organisations.

The Met Office has the responsibility of forecasting severe weather, and warning the public and Category 1 and 2 responders as defined by the Civil Contingencies Act. Severe weather may not be the most high profile threat to the community but the heavy rain and resulting floods of June 2007 show just how devastating the weather can be. There are numerous other severe weather incidents that have resulted in loss of life and placed great demand on the emergency services. The Met Office is at the Emergency Services Show to demonstrate they have a very important part to play in resilience by providing support to emergency responders.

The NPIA, established in April 2007, will support the police service by providing expertise in areas as diverse as information and communications technology, support to information and intelligence sharing, core police processes, managing change and recruiting, developing and deploying people.

The principal objectives of the NPIA Automotive & Equipment Section are setting ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standards and provision of guidance for the installation of electrical/electronic equipment, including radios & antennas, in Police vehicles.

The ORP aims to deal with the emerging CBRN threat by increasing: Capacity, Capability, Co-ordination Availability.

The ORP will be delivering these objectives across a number of areas: The development of Doctrine and Tactics, Equipment Procurement and Development, National Co-ordination, Planning and Operational Support

Rescue workers can’t work non stop without respite during a disaster. Trained REST UK volunteers give on site chair massage to crews at an incident, contributing to the overall rescue effort by giving workers physical and mental respite, helping them sustain their efforts within disaster settings. Used at Ground Zero.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution saves lives at sea with its fleet of over 332 operational lifeboats, beach lifeguards on 71 beaches, along with prevention programs for the sea and beach user. Fishing safety is an increasing focus to address the numbers of tragic deaths amongst fishermen.

The charity provides an on call 24 hour lifeboat search and rescue service to 100 nautical miles out from the coast of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Over 230 lifeboat stations are strategically placed around the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Search and Rescue Assistance in Disasters (SARAID), is a UK registered charity (No 1101593). and non-governmental organisation and all of our members are unpaid volunteers from all over the UK and we receive absolutely no funding from the UK government We supply specialist trained Urban Search and Rescue personnel & Disaster Response Teams free of charge to any country affected by major or catastrophic disasters whether man made or natural such as earthquakes, we specialise in the location and extraction of survivors from collapsed structures/buildings and. Most recently our teams have been to Pakistan following the earthquake and Sri Lanka after the tsunami and our team is registered with the UN International Search and Rescue Advisory Group.

In 1998 a number of airlines met to discuss the idea of having a forum or organisation focused on emergency response. As a result, airlines set up the United Kingdom Airlines Emergency Planning Group (UKAEPG) to provide an opportunity to discuss current issues and policies, share ideas and meet with key figures in the field of emergency response. In competition with each other in the commercial world, such differences are placed aside when dealing with aircraft accidents and major incidents.

The group is represented by all major passenger airlines registered in the UK and also has associate members from other non UK airlines and associated business such as airports, the National Police Family Liaison Advisor, a specialist trauma training company and The Airline Operator’s Association.

In responding to an accident, airlines need to have plans in place to effectively handle often delicate issues, from dealing with casualties to liaising with emergency services to investigating insurance issues.

The United Kingdom Airlines Emergency Planning Group (UKAEPG) is proud to be a new exhibitor at the Emergency Services Show 2007. Realising that responders ultimately have a common goal, ie a timely, efficient, consistent and compassionate response to all those involved, it is the intention of the UKAEPG to promote inter agency response, joint training and understanding with the other responding agencies in the UK, to ensure they all work together effectively in the aftermath of an incident.

UKISARG represents a combined fire service and NGO group, providing an international search and rescue response on behalf of the UK Government and coordinated by the Department for International Development. UKISARG were the first combined team assessed as fulfilling the United Nations “Heavy Rescue” standard.

The West Midlands Arson Reduction Team (WMATF) is a partnership between West Midlands Fire Service and West Midlands Police and has contributed to the reduction in property arson by 60% when compared to the 2001/2 baseline. On the stand the team will be promoting ‘Keep Your Business in Business’ and its sister project ‘Keep Your Schools in Business’. The team will also be on hand to answer any of your questions, and to discuss other initiatives that are being looked into for future management of arson reduction.
